Dawn Dierker, B.Sc., CHSC
General Manager

With over 25 years of experience in the water and wastewater, Dawn has contributed across operations, training, management and business development. She provides leadership and strategic guidance to the AMS team, and her transition from Director of Training to General Manager reflects AMS’s ongoing growth and evolving vision.

Dawn has also been an active leader in numerous professional organizations, serving as President of Western Canada Water (WCW), Chair of Western Canada Section of the American Water Works Association (WCSAWWA), and past Education Chair for the WCSAWWA. She continues to give back to the industry and the province as a volunteer instructor, mentor, and course developer for Saskatchewan municipalities, communities, and multiple First Nations communities and organizations, sharing her expertise to strengthen workforce development and education.

Joni Brisbin, P.Tech,. B.Ed.
Director of Training

Joni has over 30 years of experience in developing and delivering Water Resources, Environmental and Civil Engineering Technology programming and training in Saskatchewan, with a primary focus on the water and wastewater fields. 

She is a P.Tech. designated Water Resources Engineering Technologist with a major in Environmental Engineering and holds a B.Ed. (Great Distinction) from the University of Regina. Her expertise includes mining-sector experience in Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and ADDIE-based document development and implementation, as well as extensive experience in designing and delivering regulatory compliance training.

Joni has served as both a Board Member and Chair of the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board, is currently Chair of a local not-for-profit organization, and actively volunteers with several organizations in Saskatchewan.

Tracy Helmink, C.E.T., B.S.P.E., B.Ed., PGD Environmental Engineering
Senior Field Technologist/Training Consultant

Tracy brings over 35 years of experience in water and wastewater operations. Her career includes roles as an operator, training consultant, and circuit rider, supporting some of Saskatchewan’s largest employers.

She has extensive expertise in the operation and management of advanced systems, including membrane wastewater treatment facilities and reverse osmosis water treatment plants. Tracy holds a University degree in Education, a Certificate in Environmental Engineering, and is a certified operator in both water and wastewater.

She has also contributed to the industry through service on the Operator Certification Board and continues to support professional development and workforce training across the province.

oss is a certified Level 2 Water Treatment and Water Distribution Operator and a Level 1 Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection with extensive hands-on experience in municipal and mining water and wastewater operations. With a strong foundation in process optimization, and safety practices Ross brings both technical expertise and practical insight to the classroom.

Beyond his professional work, Ross proudly serves his community as a volunteer firefighter, demonstrating the same commitment to public safety and teamwork that defines his approach to water and wastewater operations. He is also a well-known local musician as the guitarist for the popular Putt Putt’s Garage, where his passion shines through on stage and in the classroom.

Leona is the Administrative Coordinator for AMS and the welcoming presence in the office and during exam sessions.

With over 25 years of experience as an administrative professional and office manager, Leona ensures the smooth operation of day-to-day activities, keeps training schedules on track, and provides essential support during the busy exam and training seasons. A graduate of Saskatoon Business College, Leona is recognized for her strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining efficient processes across the organization.

I strongly recommend Joni as an instructor to deliver subject matter to waste water collection, water supply and waste water treatment personnel.

Truly amazing, good examples and stories. Kept it interesting. Explanations and teaching style was on point. I wish I would of had an instructor like this in the trades.

Our trainer prepared us so well for the test. She made herself available for us to ask questions even after hours. It’s a lot of content in a short time but she made sure to work through it and made sure everyone had a grasp of things before moving on.

Very pleased with the training and how the day went. Loved having the small group and the natural ability to talk about different experiences and the planned training curriculum. It was a great atmosphere for training.

Knowledge That Makes a Difference

Dawn has been, and is, consistently awesome! She was generous and engaging, first inviting our production team into the City of Saskatoon drinking water lab for the career attraction project I co-led for Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba. In years following, Dawn was thoughtful and diligent in Alberta’s C2H Initiative needs analyses/job task analysis work AND as designated Subject Matter Expert (SME) doing oversight for the proof-of-concept use of applied video tutorials to illustrate how rich media can be deployed to assure consistent drinking water testing in rural and remote municipalities, First Nations communities and Metis Settlements.

Going Above and Beyond

Dawn is a great presenter a very knowledgeable and professional water and waste water instructor. As an operator who needed a bit of an extra help with the multiple guess questions on the required exams, Dawn spent a few hours assisting me with the problem area’s I had in the water/waste water documents. Thanks to her help I passed a recent exam with high passing grade. Myself as a first nations person I find her to be culturally sensitive and as mentioned before professional.
